So You're Thinking Of Living In...

New City, NY

New City, located 25 miles from New York City, has long been one of the most desirable regions in the Hudson Valley. The home of the County government seat, New City features one of the most bustling downtown areas in the region. The hamlet’s Main Street is in the midst of a facelift, as extensive road reconstruction is making the area safer and more attractive. Main Street features many of the county’s best-recognized shops and restaurants as well as the town’s public library. The hamlet is located in Clarkstown, which has taken great strides in keeping the area from over-development. Purchases of open space have routinely been approved form $22 million worth of bonding power authorized by voters in 2000. Most of the town acquisitions go towards hiking trails and maintaining scenic views. New City features some of the finest parks, ball fields and golf courses in the Hudson Valley. Established in 1949, the Clarkstown Central School District district has a total population in excess of 70,000 residents. The district covers an area of 31 square miles encompassing New City, West Nyack, Bardonia, Congers as well as parts of Nanuet and Nyack. Approximately 9,600 pupils are enrolled in its ten elementary schools, 6-8 middle school, special education school and two senior high schools. The district is currently in the final year of a multi-year plan to implement a $15 million technology program and the first year of a multi-year plan to implement an approved $33 million building program. It is also in the middle of a multi-year plan worth over $44 million to expand and modernize facilities, as well as improve energy performance.
